Sensory Backpack – Simple and Sensational
I went to the Franklin Institute with my kiddos the week before school started. We got there early and were able to park in the garage which was nice. I had read on-line prior to going that they had a sensory backpack that could be borrowed from the ticketing desk and wondered if it would be helpful.
Such a simple thing ended up being a delightful addition to our visit. So, I shared a thank you on Instagram to The Franklin Institute. They did reply to the post and I am glad they got the message that the sensory backpack was appreciated.
The fidgets came in handy while waiting in line for seating at the Fels Planetarium and the noise-reducing headphones were only used when the fire alarm accidentally went off briefly during our visit. However, I can see how the headphones would have come in handy when my son was younger and much more sensitive to sounds. I also thought it was very thoughtful that they provided a sensory alert map to guide you through certain aspects of the facility that you can identify as something to try or avoid for your child based on his/her own needs.
All in all, a cool place for the kids to explore and learn. Touched by the thoughtfulness of the sensory backpack, I am happy to share our experience with other families. Every employee we encountered there was friendly. Great job to The Franklin Institute! My kids loved it and we definitely want to back again.
